Just Ask Leadership: Why Great Managers Always Ask the Right Questions by Gary B. Cohen
Just Ask Leadership: Why Great Managers Always Ask the Right Questions by Gary B. Cohen (The McGraw-Hill Companies 2009). This book presents a fundamental yet powerful leadership concept – ask vs. tell. And the author should know. He co-founded a company and took it from 2 employees to 2,200 employees using the leadership strategy he writes about in the book. Far too many managers and leaders believe they need to make statements, tell employees what to do, and demonstrate that they have all the answers. Mr. Cohen debunks that idea with powerful stories of successful leaders who took the time to not only ask but also to listen. In addition to outlining the type of questions to ask (and they do vary by context), he also takes the reader through examples of how to implement what he calls question-based leadership. If you are just starting out in a leadership position or have been a leader and are looking for ways to improve organizational performance, we highly recommend reading this book.
